Decorate with garden water features

Since ancient times, garden water features have been a key element in gardens. Water in the garden can be integrated successfully with other elements, whatever the garden, formal or informal, traditional or modern, small or big...

Effects you can achieve with garden water features:

Movement – water can make a garden more alive. Choose from slow movement from a water feature where the water is played by the wind, to fast movement from a garden waterfall, or anything in between.

Sound– the sound of a garden waterfall helps to diminish other sounds less agreeable, like city noise and brings a special music to the garden. Try an outdoor wall water.

Reflection - of the sky and light (natural or artificial) that will give a bigger dimension to the space. To optimise the reflection effect, the material of the water feature should be as dark as possible. Mix water and light for different effects both during the day and night. One thing to try is underwater lightning.

Cooling – the simple vision of water brings with it an immediate cool sensation, that helps break hot days. Use a small circular water feature for a traditional style garden or a square/rectangular one for a contemporary style place.

Mirror – water features were the water is still, can mirror other decorative elements in the space and duplicate the effect of sculptures or plants.

Water and sculpture - use fountains or wall sculptures that have a water feature and the decorative effect will be bigger then each of these elements by itself. Fountains work better in spots that receive plenty of sunlight, so that light can reflect in the water in movement.

Feng shui - water is a vital element for feng shui in the garden. Garden water features are important to achieve harmony.

Water makes possible to have other plants in the garden, like aquatic plants and semi-aquatic plants.

Wildlife attraction - a place with a garden water feature will always be a major attraction for birds, which will become frequent visitors. For more wildlife, add a small pond and you will be able have fishes, frogs and other animals that need water.

Water landscaping opens many options to add water in a garden, but always follow safety precautions if children will use the garden.
