Patio decorating needs to take in account the impact of the colors on the walls, windows, floor, shutters... decide what you are going to keep and what you are going to change.

Warm colors (red, yellow, orange...) are more intense and because of that they tend to make a space look smaller, while cold colors (blue, violet...) are more peaceful and help make a space feel bigger. Combine both types to achieve different effects in patio decorating.

What are you going to see from the inside when you look over to a window? Pillows and big plants and flower pots strategically placed will make an impact. Imagine your windows like paintings, you already have the frame... now fill it with colour.

When selecting a color scheme for your patio decoration, start by thinking about the interior decoration of your home. Do you want to go outdoors with the same colors, or will you prefer a contrast between the interior and outdoor decorations?

If you have your plants and flowers in garden planters and pots, combine their colors with the ones of the plants. Opt for contrast or harmony, using different tones of the same colors. To give more emphasis to the plant, choose neutral colors for the planters or zinc planters. Take in account how the plants will look in all seasons, with and without flowers.

Plants aren't all green and not all green is equal. Foliage comes in different colors and tones. One plant foliage may vary from season to season or has it grow. Green can help bring together the look of plants with different flower colors.

If you plan to use your outdoor space more at the end of the day and night, choose plants with silver foliage or with bright colors.

Lighting is very important because the way you use it, it can change the perception of colors. Vary soft lights and bright lights. Nowadays you can find a lot of different solar powered lights, that are friendly to the environment and cast a beautiful light. Patio string lights are easy to put up for parties or as an outdoor Christmas light and easily taken down after it.
